Antepo and Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector Work Together on Application Performance For J2ME(TM) Platform on Motorola Embedded Reference Implementation
Real-time Messaging and Presence Services Applications from Antepo Will be Ported to Motorola's J2ME Implementation.
NEW YORK, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Antepo, Inc., a leading provider of open
mobile messaging applications, announces that it has agreed to work with
Motorola's (NYSE: MOT - news) Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS) to port their
applications to Motorola's implementation of the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro
Edition (J2ME), known as the Motorola Embedded Reference Implementation
(MERI).
MERI is a fully compliant implementation of J2ME, the Java technology
specifications designed exclusively for wireless communication devices.
MERI
began shipping on wireless devices from Motorola in March 2001 on the iDEN
platform.
"Porting to MERI allows us to offer robust applications that OEMs can
bundle with handsets to make them more attractive to system operators and
consumers," said Max Seguineau, Chairman and CEO of Antepo.
"We can offer our
customers a time to market advantage with open mobile messaging applications
that work on their MERI enabled devices."
Antepo's Instant Messaging and Presence applications deliver a rich user
experience on mobile devices, and are fully compliant with the Connected
Limited Device Configuration (CDLC) 1.0 and Mobile Information Device Profile
(MIDP) 1.0 specifications. Targeted at consumer electronics and embedded
devices, the J2ME platform is an ideal industry solution for a variety of low
memory, low power, portable devices such as PDAs and cell phones.
The MERI product from SPS is the implementation being used for the
handsets enabled with Java(TM) J2ME from Motorola's handset manufacturing
groups.
Motorola's SPS is making MERI available to other manufacturers by
providing porting services to handset operating systems to help the industry
establish J2ME as the standard.
"Innovative applications are the key to
industry-wide adoption of MERI for J2ME," said Anne-Marie Larkin, vice
president of the Wireless Software Applications and Services division at SPS.
"Porting applications from leading developers like Antepo to MERI will help
the industry respond to subscriber's changing needs for bundled and
aftermarket wireless software applications."
The J2ME client that will be ported to MERI is part of Antepo's
multi-access solution based on Jabber technology. Used by wireless system
operators, Antepo's platform ensures the real-time delivery of any XML-based
documents through SMS, WAP and desktop interfaces while persistently tracking
user presence.
